Brick by brick: The Living Lab game

Joep Wijnhoven & Yashna Pande

We live in a complex world with complex problems. Solving these problems often require you to collaborate outside your department, organisation, or field. But how do you do this with people that might think or work differently than yourself? Or with people that have other motivations?

In this fun and interactive session, we will mimic a collaboration in urban development. In groups of 4, you will be constructing a building together and experience the struggles of transdisciplinary work. These insights can help you in your own future collaborations. Will your group succeed?

Biography

Yashna and Joep work for the Centre for Living Labs, a team that promotes better collaboration between academics, students, and operations to tackle sustainability challenges at the university. By creating Living labs on campus, testing ideas and innovations in real-life settings, they offer a breeding ground for fresh ideas with the potential of systemic learning. Yashna has a background in psychology and Joep is a biologist turned organizational coach. Now they have teamed up to help the UU reach their sustainability ambitions by increasing the participations of all ‘campusians’.
