World café: Big questions about the university's place in society

Programme Committee

Would you like to talk to colleagues from different faculties about the university's place in society? Then please join us at the World Café!

The role of the university in society has been strongly debated since its foundation and has never really been unambiguous. In this interactive session, we look at the normative and formative role of the university in society. We discuss three major, related questions: 1) What is the university's social mission? 2) To what extent is there room for authenticity of our students within our curricula? 3) To what extent should the university impart certain norms and values to students? We do this through the World Café format. This means discussing these themes in an interdisciplinary group, under the guidance of a discussion leader, in several rounds. Afterwards, the results will be shared with the new rector.
